By the Book is delighted to announce it will be hosting reading retreats in new venues across Cornwall.
A By the Book retreat provides an opportunity for readers to meet fellow bookworms and read away from the pressures and distractions of everyday life.
Hosted by avid readers Christen Pears and Helen Prudames, the first retreat took place at Middle Colenso Farm, near Penzance, in 2024.
"We created our retreats because we know from our own experience just how difficult it can be to carve out time to read when life is busy," they said.
"We've been delighted by the response from fellow readers. All six of our retreats this year are fully booked and for 2027 we're venturing into exciting new venues in Cornwall."
The first retreat next year will take place in February at Prussia Cove. Guests will be staying in The Haven, an imposing Victorian house overlooking the sea. At the end of April, By the Book will be at Cabilla Cornwall, a purpose-built retreat centre set in one of the UK's remaining temperate rainforests on the edge of Bodmin Moor.
Each retreat will be slightly different, but they are designed to provide some much-needed time and space for guests to read without guilt or interruptions.
There will also be opportunities for Pilates classes, sauna sessions and creative activities but nothing is compulsory. Guests can join in as much or as little as they like.
"As well as plenty of reading time, our retreats offer good food and lively conversation. We provide all meals, with everyone gathering together to enjoy delicious, nourishing food."

By the Book is officially partnered with the literary magazine Slightly Foxed.
Future plans include bookish supper clubs at venues across Cornwall as well as an online book club.
