The historical mile swim from Newlyn to Jubilee Pool has been an annual event in Penzance for many years dating as far back as the 1940s. Originally known simply as the “long distance swim” it was the closing event of a swim gala hosted at Jubilee Pool. It is well known in Penzance and around the Penwith area that on the biggest high tide near the end of August, local swimmers take to the sea with their bright swim hats and compete for first place in the one mile race.
The team at Jubilee Pool brought back this beloved event in 2022 with great success, with the help of our local sponsors. It was a great turnout, many members of the community participated in the race, and friends and family showed their support. We look forward to another good year as the feedback from last year has been overwhelmingly positive.
This year the Jubilee Sea Swim will take place on 19th August with the Short Race starting at 5:15pm and the Mile Race starting at 6:15pm. Swimmers will be professionally timed. Tickets for the 2023 evet have sold out via the website, but we are hoping to increase the race capacity next year, thanks to support from our local partners. In keeping with the pools community focus this will be a non-profit event with any proceeds going back into the pool to ensure its future.

Following the swim there will be an awards ceremony at the pool with medals given to the top competitors to recognise their achievements. Afterwards, swimmers, friends and spectators are welcome to enjoy some music and pick up a pasty or drink at our café which will be open until 10pm.
