London - March 2025 The Massey Partnership are delighted to be representing Kiln Sauna, a Falmouth based community sauna experience. Kiln - winners of British Sauna Society 'Best Community Sauna in the UK & Ireland' in 2024 - will be launching their new second touring community sauna this spring at Kiln Quay, Flushing.
The 9-seater mobile sauna will provide an affordable community-focused wellness and a place to truly recharge. More than just a place of physical restoration, Kiln is a social and mental well-being hub, offering benefits that range from detoxification and cardiovascular improvement to alleviation of stress and depression. The ritual of heat brings people together whether in quiet contemplation or shared conversation – followed by the awakening from cold water immersion in the sea.
The brainchild of Falmouth locals Kathryn Tyler and Angus Thatcher, this enveloping experience draws inspiration from sauna traditions around the world and will be soft launched on 15th March, offering complimentary sessions to locals, remaining at Flushing for a few months before moving onwards to Penarrow Beach in Mylor in the Summer.
The name ‘Kiln’ is a creative homage to Cornwall’s extensive lime burning heritage in the 18th and 19th centuries, characterized by kilns along the coast and tidal rivers for convenient coal transportation. Enriching this historical backdrop, Kathryn and Angus discovered the Korean tradition of Hanjeungmak, where the residual warmth of extinguished kilns was repurposed for traditional sauna sessions. This fusion of cultural and historical elements beautifully informs the identity of ‘Kiln’.
Intended to harmonise with the natural landscape, the sauna has been carefully crafted by a local Cornish sauna workshop. The design emphasises tranquillity through minimalism with wooden cladding, simple interior and gentle lighting mirroring the serene atmosphere of Japanese tea houses, fostering a space for contemplation. This architectural harmony invites guests to a meditative experience as well as physical restoration.
Kathryn trained as a Sauna Master in Lithuania before launching the first sauna on Kiln Quay in Flushing in early 2024 - and has since eagerly awaited the chance to introduce a second sauna experience to tour the surrounding beaches. This aspiration was inspired by her time working in Denmark, where she embraced the local sauna culture - some days even breaking the ice to swim in the harbour, followed by a sauna before work.
Explains Kathryn “We are so excited to be launching our second roaming community sauna and introducing more people to the wonderfully healing experience of sauna warmth. The sauna ritual is a wonderful way to quiet the mind through gentle heat, the fragrant scent of wood and the soft wisps of steam. Our namesake location in Flushing is beautiful with the ever-changing light across the water, and we can’t wait to share the sunrises and sunsets with guests old and new.”
