New Client : Looking Glass Lodge

London, January 2025: The Massey Partnership is delighted to introduce Looking Glass Lodge - a biophilically designed luxury elevated Lodge, set within an ancient woodland, in an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) just an hour from London. Sleeping two people, it is the perfect hideout for couples or friends seeking a unique space to unwind, or a solo traveller wanting peaceful seclusion.

Looking Glass Lodge, which appeared on Channel 4’s George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces, is a one bedroom, self-catering retreat, sleeping up to two adults, on its own private grounds, next to a majestic Giant Redwood tree, in the village of Fairlight, near Hastings, East Sussex.
Its name was chosen due to the full-height electrochroromic panoramic windows, which allow guests to immerse themselves in nature during their stay.

Biophilic principles were of the utmost importance to owners Rik and Lindsey, when designing the Lodge with architect Michael Kendrick - the intention to enable a closer connection to nature through the way the Lodge has been built, using natural resources to create a sense of harmony between the architecture and natural world.

Thoughtfully designed to combine luxury with sustainable, green credentials and new technology, and enabling guests to unwind in a tranquil setting, Looking Glass Lodge has been sensitively built by local craftspeople. The windows provide a unique way of creating a light-filled space where you can see out, but Nature can’t see in, and the cedar-clad exterior is mirrored internally, with cedar and plywood selected for the interior too, providing warmth and texture. Soft furnishings are in natural, earthy tones to compliment the surroundings.

The Lodge offers year-round comfort in all weathers, amongst its evergreen setting - doors can be thrown open in the summer, and the floating log-burner by Firemaker, coupled with underfloor heating, offers warmth during the colder months.

The Lodge’s bedroom has a queen size Naturalmat mattress and linen bedding, a freestanding stone bath, which looks out over the trees, as well as an en suite shower room, with bathroom products by local, natural skin and body care brand Wideye, thick fluffy towels, bath robes and a Dyson hair dryer.

The minimalist, open-plan living space has Wi-fi, built-in Sonos wireless speakers, and a record player with a selection of vinyl, and a well-equipped kitchen, with locally sourced hot chocolate by Knoops, Proper Tea Company tea, and compostable coffee pods by Roar Gill Coffee provided. Food deliveries can be arranged via the digital Touchstay guide, sent to guests on booking.

The large, outdoor deck is furnished with outdoor seating and table, enabling guests to relax and dine under the sun or stars, should they like to.

Looking Glass Lodge is an ideal destination for a quiet retreat, but also a great base for exploringthe local area, with the towns of Hastings, St Leonards and Rye a short drive away, and Pett Levelbeach a walkable distance. For those who don’t want to venture out, guests can spot wildlife in thesurrounding woodland, relax on the deck, or curl up on the sofa by the log-burner.

Owners Rik and Lindsey Goodman said, “This area of woodland is very special to our family, andLooking Glass Lodge was built in a natural glade, surrounded by trees of the Mallydams Wood Nature Reserve, which was established by Rik’s parents for the RSPCA in the 1960s. We consider ourselves extremely lucky to live where we do and to introduce this beautiful, peaceful setting to guests of Looking Glass Lodge. With the sound of wildlife and wind through the trees, it truly is a woodland oasis.”
