Set within 1.5 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, Sancreed House Retreat is a Grade II listed Georgian former rectory once used as a residence for students and the well-heeled guests of renowned artist John Miller, a creative legacy that continues to shape the house’s atmosphere and character today. The Retreat borders the historic Sancreed Parish Church, with parts of the church dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries, and whose gentle bells chime out on a Sunday morning.
Bed and Breakfast
Guests looking to experience the luxury Bed and Breakfast can enjoy warm hospitality from owners Pablo Tricanico and Grove Aitkenhead in the main house. Here there are 4 rooms to choose from: ‘Bird’ and ‘Boat’ - both luxury kings - ‘Peacock’, which offers an extra dressing room, large bathroom and ample space, and the ‘Sancreed Suite’ with bed, two bathrooms and a living room for your exclusive use.
With of the rooms offer four poster beds and all have Wi-Fi and flat screen TVs, exquisite art and decoration and the promise of a wonderful night’s sleep. Works from local Cornish artists, including artist Penny Rumble, whose studio is a short walk from Sancreed House.
In the morning breakfast is enjoyed in the dining room and is arguably one of the finest starts to the day you’ll enjoy in Cornwall! With home roasted coffee to complement the home cooked menu - dishes include all the usual traditional fare as well as Macha Mochi Waffles, Folded Eggs on toast, Crunchy Nutty French Toast, Pancakes with seasonal berries and more!
Self-Catering Cottages
The self-catering cottages at Sancreed House (Magnolia, Azalea and Camellia) are ideal for guests seeking privacy, space and the freedom of a home-from-home stay without compromising on luxury. Each cottage accommodates two guests and is ideal for romantic escapes or longer, restorative breaks.
Each of the three cottages feature an open-plan kitchen and living space with a large, comfortable living room, dining area and log burner, ideal for keep warm on clear Cornish mornings. The kitchens are fully equipped with an oven, microwave, coffee machine, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washer dryer, making them particularly well suited to guests who enjoy home cooking and relaxed entertaining.
The spacious master bedroom includes a king-size bed, generous wardrobes and ample drawer space, with large windows overlooking the back gardens. Beds are fitted with UK-made pocket-sprung mattresses, available with either a firm or soft top layer to ensure a restful night’s sleep. The private en-suite bathroom offers a walk-in shower and is complemented by luxury linens, plush towels and eco-friendly, vegan and cruelty-free toiletries. Guests also benefit from free Wi-Fi and a 43-inch Smart TV.
For those who would like a little time off from self-catering, breakfast can also be added – as well as dinner platters and picnics in case you’d like to explore the Coast paths.
Wellness
All guests can enjoy access to the Garden Spa, nestled in the heart of Sancreed’s beautiful grounds. Relax in the barrel sauna, before sinking into the hot tub. Nestled among fruit trees, blousy hydrangeas and soaring palms, the two Japanese-style ofuro wooden baths offer a quietly magical retreat. Here, guests can soak beneath the open sky, accompanied by birdsong, the soft crackle of fire and the gentle movement of leaves overhead. On misty or rainy days, the hiss of raindrops on the chimney only heightens the atmosphere. Heated to a blissful 42°C, these outdoor baths are a firm favourite and a perfect way to savour the elements in comfort, whatever the weather. Guests can also take to the water in the Retreat’s indoor pool, which is heated throughout the summer months.
In-room spa treatments can be booked via ‘Home Spa Cornwall’ with a treatment menu including massage, facials and pamper packages.
In the Area
Sancreed is the ideal base from which to explore very best of West Cornwall. From the crystal-clear waters of Lamorna Cove (guests can hire electric bikes from the retreat and order a home-made picnic) to the golden sands and surf of Sennen Cove, the dramatic cliffside setting of the Minack Theatre and the art-filled streets of Penzance, the region’s most iconic spots are all within easy reach. Take a refreshing dip at the historic Jubilee Pool in nearby Penzance and enjoy the antiques shops of Chapel House, explore the beauty of the Southwest Coast Path, or simply soak up the slower pace of life in Sancreed.
The Retreat is in the heart of some of Cornwall’s finest food and drink destinations, including The Old Coastguard in Mousehole, Argoe in Newlyn and Barbican Bistro in Penzance - all celebrated for their fresh seafood from Newlyn fish market. With excellent transport links, coastal walks in every direction, and a thriving local arts and food scene, Sancreed House Retreat is perfectly positioned for experiencing everything West Penwith has to offer.
Owners Pablo Tricanico and Grove Aitenhead met in Australia, although their roots are from Uruguay, South Africa and New Zealand. They first came to Cornwall on their honeymoon, where they fell in love with the beauty of the Southwest.
