On 26 June at 5.45pm, almost 300 members of public will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘largest number of people performing a synchronised swimming routine’ in the renowned Jubilee Pool in Penzance, overlooking Mounts Bay. The current record stands at 247 swimmers.
The event will be raising money for UNICEF and its work supporting children in war zones such as Ukraine. Half the swimmers will wear yellow swim caps, the other half will wear blue which will form the Ukrainian flag across the iconic lido during the two minute long, synchronised swim routine being performed to Nina Simone’s famous song Feeling Good.
‘Swim for Ukraine’ is a visually arresting statement about unity and working together for a common goal. Anyone has been able to sign up to be part of the event, including those never having participated in synchronsied swimming before, but swimmers have had to be keen to take on the challenge of learning the 2 minute routine and taking part in the rehearsals in the Jubilee Pool, Penzance.
