April 2023, Cornwall: The Great Gardens of Cornwall, a collection of the best-known, largest, most historically and horticulturally important gardens in Cornwall, is collaborating with local artists in a bid to raise money for the Cornwall Community Foundation.
Nine artists will base themselves at a garden each to draw inspiration and create a visual representation of what spring means to them. The exclusive collection of work will be exhibited for one week at Lemon Street Market, before being auctioned on 20th June, with all money raised going to the worthy cause.
The local artists include Lizzie Black, Andrew Tozer, Rob Rimmington, Nicky Walker, Mary Jago, Kate Cambridge, Lorna Tremayne, Susan Nathan and Carol O’Toole. Each artist will draw from their unique styles, using various formats to recreate the individual vistas.
Charles Williams, Chair of The Great Gardens of Cornwall commented: “Each garden in our collection is a space where visitors can connect with nature, nurture their mental health and support their wellbeing, pillars that are also reflected in the vision of Cornwall Community Foundation.
Each garden is so different, especially as the seasons change, and we’re excited to see what the artists make of each environment. Thanks have to go to the wonderful artists for giving up their time to support with this initiative. We’re very much looking forward to seeing the masterpieces on show in June, and to raise much needed funds for this incredible cause.”
Lorna Tremayne, Artist-In-Residence at The Lost Gardens of Heligan said: “The biggest challenge of this brilliant initiative is trying to capture the unique atmosphere and energy of spring at Heligan. I normally work with acrylic paints, but I love trying new ideas and techniques, so it’s even a mystery to me what my final piece will look like! I’m looking forward to seeing the other artists interpretation of spring during the exhibition and raising much needed funds at the auction for Cornwall Community Foundation, a cause close to my heart.”
With the money Cornwall Community Foundation receive, small grants are awarded to grassroots, front line, volunteer-led organisations who are making a positive impact in their area. The money helps to overcome challenges of disadvantage, exclusion and poverty, for all ages.
“The money raised goes towards some incredible projects across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and we’re truly thankful to everyone that supports our cause, especially to the artists who have given their time and creativity to help make positive impacts in the county.” added Tamas Haydu, Chief Executive of Cornwall Community Foundation.
The exhibition will be on show at Lemon Street Market in Truro from 13th June 2023 for one week, with the charity auction in aid of Cornwall Community Foundation to be held at Lemon Street Market on 20th June 2023.
